COVID Emergency support

Pasumai Ulagam utilizes the Emergency grant from United Methodist Women in Faith for distribution of Dry Ration, Sanitary Items, Masks, etc.  to families affected by Lockdown in and around Erode District. We also provide psychological support to families to overcome fear during these difficult times.

So far we have served 855 families consisting of 40 for Transgenders, 185 Srilankan Refugees families, 100 Single Headed Women families, 50 Village Traditional Theater Artiest Families, 40 Nomadic Community Families, 100 Slum Families and 300 Village Families.

These people are engaged in Agricultural Labour works, Domestic Work, Hotel Cleaning Works, Selling of fancy things at village markets, Waste Collection from streets sides, Carpender works, Construction works, Sweeper work etc. for their livelIhood. Migrants and Nomadic Community people having land provided by Govt of Tamilnadu and they stay in temporary shelters like Tent and Hut. Due to COVID 19 and lockdown people lost their jobs and they have no other income. . During the lockdown Government Provides dry ration and Rs. 2000 towards pandemic assistance to those having Ration Card (government ID card) but this is not enough to run the family. Most of the migrants and nomadic people do not have a ration card. Hence these people are not eligible for any financial assistance nor dry ration. UMW Emergency grant was a great relief for people suffering due to the prolonged lockdown. The food kits that we distribute contains through 10 Kg Of rice, 2 kg of Wheat Flour, 2 Kg of Rava,  and 800 grams of Vermicilli. It helps familes to have 3 meals a day. Masks and sanitary items are also distributed to the people.
